The project presented several creative and technical challenges:

• Scale and presence: The central glacier would stand at 7 metres tall, flanked by two 4-metre structures. Each needed to command attention while harmonising with the ice show’s lighting and choreography.

• Lighting integration: Each glacier had to incorporate translucent material sections to allow internal lighting, enabling dynamic colour and atmosphere changes throughout the performance.
  

• Touring and assembly: The structures needed to be designed in modular sections for ease of transport, storage and reassembly for future tours.

• Ice surface installation: The glaciers were to be freestanding on ice, requiring secure, stable engineering that could withstand temperature and surface conditions.
  

Seedbed Studio worked closely with Gandeys Circus to translate their initial sketches and design references into a fully realised 3D scenic design. Our team developed detailed CAD construction drawings that balanced artistic vision with technical practicality, ensuring the structures could be built safely, efficiently and on schedule.

Each glacier was fabricated in modular, interlocking sections to facilitate transport and assembly. The internal framework was designed to provide both stability and flexibility, while allowing for integrated lighting zones made from semi-translucent materials.

The project was completed on a tight schedule with our team handling the on-site delivery and installation at the Trafford Centre, ensuring the glaciers were safely erected on the ice surface and visually aligned with the production’s overall design concept.
